The company
Maclawran LLC is a Florida limited liability company based in Key West. It builds and operates xChk, a service that licenses AI agents to accountable people, records what those agents do, and puts a human's decision on the record where one is required. Maclawran also publishes books under its own imprint; that catalogue lives at maclawran.ca/books.
What xChk is
AI agents now run commands, edit files, send messages and spend money on behalf of people. The question that matters to an employer, an insurer or a court is not whether the agent authenticated. It is who answers for what it did. xChk answers that question by construction: every agent carries a licence bound to a verified human, every consequential action is checked against what that human allowed, approvals are a passkey ceremony, and the record is sealed on a chain that anyone can recompute.
The service runs on two independent registries and is described in two published papers and nine US provisional patent filings. It works today with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Antigravity and Hermes, and the design embeds in the Model Context Protocol and Agent2Agent rather than competing with them.
The founder
Sean MacGuire created Big Brother, the first web-based systems and network monitor, and took it from founding to acquisition. He then spent a decade in platform, site-reliability and identity engineering leadership at Secureworks and Sophos before building xChk. He holds prior US patents in financial services and is the author of the xChk papers.
